Terms of Service

Effective date: 23 September 2026

These terms govern your use of the Scanly Android app, its cloud AI service, and this website. They are written to be read, not skimmed past.

Who we are

Scanly is built and run by one independent developer based in Morocco, not a company. “We” and “us” in these terms mean that developer. You can reach us at [email protected]. These terms are an agreement between you and the developer of Scanly.

Acceptance of these terms

By using Scanly, you agree to these terms and to the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding contract where you live. If you are a minor, you may use Scanly only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

The service

Scanly is an Android document, barcode and QR scanner with a built-in PDF editor. On your device it provides unlimited scanning and OCR, PDF annotation, organisation, signing and editing tools, barcode and QR actions, and export to PDF, Word, Markdown, plain text, CSV and JSON.

Optional cloud AI features, which need a free account, are: AI Scan, translation, data extraction and drafting documents (processed by Mistral AI); Audio to text (processed by xAI); and Design a PDF (processed by Google Gemini and typeset on Google Cloud Run). How your content moves between these services is described in the Privacy Policy.

Plans and allowances

Free includes everything that runs on your device, 20 cloud AI credits a month (plus credits from optional rewarded ads), up to 3 pages per AI document, uploads up to 5 MB, audio recordings up to 10 minutes, and Design a PDF, paid for from those credits.

Scanly Pro ($6.99 a month) removes ads and adds 700 cloud AI credits a month, up to 300 pages per document, uploads up to 30 MB, audio recordings up to 3 hours, Office-file OCR, translation, data extraction, drafting, Design a PDF, a custom AI endpoint, and the Pro PDF tools (signing, signature validation, text editing, compression and encryption).

Scanly Max ($14.99 a month) includes everything in Pro with 1,500 cloud AI credits a month, up to 1,000 pages per document, uploads up to 50 MB, and audio recordings up to 6 hours.

One credit covers one AI-scanned page or about 3 minutes of audio; other AI tools draw from the same balance at the rates shown in the app. Credits also have a daily limit (20 on Free, 350 on Pro, 1,000 on Max). Unused credits do not roll over to the next month. On-device OCR and barcode scanning remain free and unlimited on every plan.

Subscriptions and billing

Prices are in US dollars. Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled and may be subject to applicable taxes. Paddle processes all subscription payments as the merchant of record and reseller, so your purchase contract for the subscription is with Paddle. The contracting Paddle entity depends on where you are buying from and is named in the Paddle Checkout Buyer Terms.

A paid plan is unlocked with a licence key, which may be activated on up to 3 devices. You can cancel at any time and keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Refunds are covered by the Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Rewarded ads

On the Free tier you may watch an optional rewarded video to earn additional cloud AI credits. Watching is always your choice; Scanly shows no other advertising, and no ads are shown to Pro or Max subscribers.

Credits are awarded only after Google AdMob confirms directly to our servers that the video was genuinely watched. The number of credits awarded per video and the number of videos honoured each day are set by us and may change at any time. Earned credits are promotional, not a purchase: they carry no cash value, expire with the monthly period in which they were earned, and are not refundable or transferable. Ad availability depends on Google’s ad inventory and is not guaranteed.

Your content

Your documents, recordings and results belong to you. When you send content to a cloud AI feature, you give us only the limited, temporary permission needed to pass it to the AI provider, return the result to you, and keep it for the short periods described in the Privacy Policy. We do not claim ownership of your content and do not use it to train AI models.

You are responsible for having the right to process what you submit. In particular, before recording or transcribing a conversation, make sure everyone in it knows and has agreed where the law requires it.

Acceptable use

You must not use Scanly to process unlawful content or in a way that violates another person’s rights, including recording people without the consent the law requires. You must not attempt to bypass the licence activation limit or usage allowances; falsify, automate or otherwise manipulate rewarded ad impressions to obtain credits you did not earn; reverse-engineer or abuse the cloud API; interfere with the service; or resell access to it.

Your own AI endpoint

If you connect your own AI endpoint, your use of that provider is governed by your agreement with them, and any charges they make are yours. We are not responsible for the output, availability or data handling of a provider you choose.

Accuracy and responsible use

OCR, transcription, translation, extraction, barcode and AI output can contain mistakes: misread numbers, wrong words or speakers, or missing text. Check important results yourself. Do not rely on Scanly without human review where an error could cause harm, including medical, legal, financial, safety-critical or other high-impact decisions.

Warranty disclaimer

Scanly is made and maintained by one person, and the service and its output are provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied, including warranties of availability, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do our best to keep the service running, but cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits, revenue or business opportunities arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Scanly in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

Termination

You may stop using Scanly, cancel a subscription, or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access to the cloud service if you materially violate these terms, abuse the service, or create a security or legal risk. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply.

Changes to the service or terms

We may change the service or these terms. Updated terms will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If a material change affects an active paid plan, we will give reasonable notice before it takes effect.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Morocco, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live remain unaffected.
